Guangzhou - Hong Kong By Train

Seven daily trains link Guangzhou's East Railway Station and Hunghom station in Kowloon, with two extra trains added during special festivals and other peak periods. Travelling time is 1 and a half hours. There is also a train link between Foshan and Hong Kong, with a traveling time of just over 2 hours.

In Guangzhou, away from the station itself, most hotels and the CTS office can help with train tickets. In Hong Kong, tickets can be purchased through travel agents, hotels, CTS offices and at Hunghom railway station (tel: 2947 7888). If tickets to Guangzhou are sold out, take the Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) to the border terminus of Lo Wu (A short 40 minute journey, with departures roughly every 10 minutes). The Shenzhen station is a few minutes walk across the border.

There are dozens of trains daily between Shenzhen and Guangzhou. Traveling time is two hours. Trains arrive in Guangzhou either at the central station or at Guangzhou East Railway station (Guangzhou Dong), in Tianhe, a 30 minute taxi ride from the city center.

All trains between Kowloon and Guangzhou are air-conditioned, but not all between Shenzhen and Guangzhou offer this service. Ask for the air-con class when buying a ticket. This will probably prove worth the extra money when the temperatures soar in the summer.
